protonvpn

ProtonVPN is a virtual private network service developed by the team behind ProtonMail, the secure email provider based in Switzerland. Built with a privacy-first philosophy, ProtonVPN combines strong encryption, transparent practices, and advanced features aimed at protecting user data and bypassing censorship while remaining accessible to nontechnical users. Core features and privacy ProtonVPN operates under Swiss jurisdiction, which benefits from strong privacy laws and independent oversight. The service publicly commits to a strict no-logs policy and has made its apps open source, allowing third parties to audit the code. ProtonVPN supports modern VPN protocols including WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2, offering a balance of speed and security. Its Secure Core architecture routes traffic through privacy-friendly countries (such as Switzerland and Iceland) before exiting to the wider internet, adding a layer of protection against network-level attackers. Performance and usability ProtonVPN has optimized servers for high-speed connections, streaming, and P2P/torrenting. WireGuard support delivers faster throughput and lower latency than older protocols for many users. Native apps are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, plus guides for routers and other platforms. Useful client features include a kill switch to prevent leaks if the VPN disconnects, split tunneling on supported apps, and a built-in NetShield ad and malware blocker on paid plans. Plans and pricing ProtonVPN offers a limited free tier with access to a handful of server locations—useful for basic privacy needs and testing the service. Paid plans scale with features: higher-tier subscriptions unlock Secure Core, more server locations, faster speeds, P2P support, Tor over VPN integration, and additional simultaneous connections. Pricing is generally competitive for the feature set, though top-tier plans are pricier than the cheapest providers. Pros and cons Pros: strong privacy pedigree; open-source apps; Secure Core; modern protocols; free tier; good for streaming and secure torrenting. Cons: some advanced features require higher-tier plans; server counts can be lower than mass-market rivals; premium plans cost more than basic competitors. Who should use ProtonVPN ProtonVPN is a solid choice for privacy-conscious users who value transparency and strong protections. It's especially appealing to people who already trust ProtonMail or who need extra resilience against surveillance and censorship. For casual users seeking the cheapest option, other services might be more budget-friendly, but for a mix of privacy and performance, ProtonVPN is a top contender.#1#
