protonvpn

ProtonVPN was created by the team behind ProtonMail with the goal of providing a transparent, privacy-first VPN service. Based in Switzerland, ProtonVPN benefits from strong Swiss privacy laws and positions itself around protecting user data and resisting intrusive surveillance. Its product lineup ranges from a limited free tier to paid plans with advanced privacy and performance features. Security and privacy are at the core of ProtonVPN. The service uses modern VPN protocols including WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2, and applies strong encryption to protect traffic. ProtonVPN maintains a strict no-logs policy, meaning it does not track your online activity. The company has also made its client apps open-source and subject to independent security audits, increasing transparency and trustworthiness. One of ProtonVPN’s distinctive features is Secure Core. Rather than simply routing traffic through a single VPN server, Secure Core routes traffic through specially hardened servers located in privacy-friendly jurisdictions before exiting through a regular VPN server. This approach adds an extra layer of protection against network-based attacks and certain forms of surveillance. ProtonVPN also offers Tor over VPN connectivity for users who want to combine the anonymity of Tor with the convenience of a VPN. Functionality extends beyond raw privacy. ProtonVPN supports P2P traffic on select servers, which is helpful for users who torrent responsibly. It also includes a reliable kill switch that blocks all internet traffic if the VPN connection drops, and split tunneling to allow trusted apps to bypass the VPN. Many users find ProtonVPN effective for streaming and geo-unblocking, though performance can vary depending on chosen servers and subscription level. ProtonVPN’s pricing model includes a free plan with access to a handful of servers and limited speeds — a good entry point for basic use — and several paid tiers that unlock faster speeds, a larger server network, Secure Core, and multi-device support. Paid plans are competitive with other reputable VPN providers and emphasize privacy features rather than aggressive marketing around feature bloat. Apps are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and setup guides exist for routers and other platforms. The interfaces are designed to be approachable for non-technical users while offering advanced options for power users. Who should consider ProtonVPN? Privacy-conscious individuals, journalists, activists, and everyday users who want a trustworthy, transparent VPN with strong policies and extra privacy features will find ProtonVPN compelling. As always, choose a plan and configuration that match your needs for speed, server locations, and advanced protections.#1#
